In the Four of Cups, we see a young man sitting underneath a tree. His arms and legs are crossed. Three cups are sitting in front of him. Form a cloud, a hand reaches out to him, offering him another cup, which he seems to be ignoring. His eyes seem to be downcast; he appears to be unaware of what is happening around him; he looks disengaged.

The Four Cups is a card of self-absorption. Those times when that little part of you feels disinterested in anyone or anything around you. When you find your mind is in this state, you often find yourself unaware of how you affect others; it might be that you are not even noticing others.

There are times in your life when this behavior is relevant. You might need to focus on yourself. Maybe you have a history of taking care of others first, or you have been focusing on other areas of your life. Now is the time to reintroduce balance into your life by taking care of yourself for a change. The important word for me is balance, now is a time for you to reflect and dream a little before getting back to your grind of everyday life.

You need to find your inner confidence.

There is no point in trying to bang your head against a wall. Likewise, it’s pointless trying to speak to someone who doesn’t want to listen to reason.

It is important to be aware of any opportunities offered to you. You may feel that the situation is not suitable for you. Try not to be too quick to judge or jump to conclusions. The Four of Cups is prompting you to look closer at a situation.

It might make you feel that you are being dismissive, but by doing so, you could miss out on a great opportunity that is right under your nose.

The Four of Cups reminds you to stop limiting yourself. Open your eyes. It is a vast world out there, ready and waiting for you. So if you think you have been making excuses as to why you can’t do something, now is the time to stop. It would help if you found the energy to make life happen and grab any opportunities that come your way.

If it is a relationship that you are looking for, the Four of Cups can show disillusions. This card can often come up if you have felt hurt in the past. For example, you might have closed yourself off from people to avoid getting hurt. So even if your soul mate came along right now, you wouldn’t be able to recognize their potential.
