The Major Arcana

The Lovers

Card Theme: Relationships
Element: Air

The lovers are standing in a magical garden showing a substantial similarity to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. They are naked, standing in front of the tree of life and the tree of forbidden fruit.

The Archangel Raphael looms above them.

The Lovers is the card that most people want to see in a tarot reading.

Falling in love is often something that we believe is outside of our control. We all have heard the tales of cupid’s arrow piercing the heart of a loved one. Or magic spells and potions that can seduce someone.

The lovers’ card does refer to these aspects of love and romance, yet this card can have many interpretations in a reading. The message in this card is about choices, and that message is like love. Most things in life come down to choices. Wheater you are in a relationship, you have chosen to be in. Or you are looking for one.

Whether we find ourselves loving, fighting, or just being distant from people, it is down to our choosing.

The Lovers card can represent the relationship that you have with yourself. If you love and are kind towards yourself, you will likely act this way towards others. If you can’t love yourself, how can you love others?

When you find yourself facing choices, you might often feel the pressure that you have to make that “perfect choice.”

Sometimes life may or may not provide you with that gorgeous partner of the incredible career you dreamed of having. You may find someone who, in your mind, is just “good enough” but will love you completely, is a much better option, and will teach us to love ourselves.

Or we may find that job that is not quite what we’re hoping for, but in the long run, it will offer valuable experience for us to move forward in our career.

The Lovers card asks you to make those conscious decisions in your life and your relationships so that you can find yourself open to new possibilities that you had not originally planned.

When The Lovers card appears, you might have found yourself at a crossroads. And it would help if you made some important choices which will take you in a positive direction- particularly in your relationship with yourself and others.

Listen to your intuition and decided what is right for you and those around you. Try and make these decisions with as much love as you can.

The energy of the Lovers card can be intense and full of joy.

On the cynical side, it could represent a third party within a relationship. This doesn’t necessarily mean that someone is deceitful; instead, it may relate to the fact that you are being overdemanding and distracting you from what is essential. Remember not to neglect those you love and need your attention.

Maybe you are looking at a relationship in a different light. Perhaps you’re searching for more commitment or possibly free yourself from any restrictions you are feeling. The Lover’s card says, maybe it’s time to think about your choices and make these decisions for your long-term emotional well-being.

Archangel Raphael is prominently featured in the Loves card floating above the man and the woman. Archangel Raphael is the angel of love and healing. His message is to take care and learn to love yourself. Ultimately, the Lovers card is about commitment, love, and bonding. The energy in this card is one of mutual attraction.

You can develop deep connections, Whether that be romantically or in the way of a company or joint business venture. Things will now start to move in the right direction. People are willing to support you, and you might find that they are closer than you think.

Affirmation:  “I will make the right choices based on love.”

Blocked Meaning

Card Theme: Disharmony

The Lover’s card in the blocked position is saying maybe your relationships are off-balance at the moment. Perhaps it’s time to make some important decisions, and whether you’re aware of it or not, you might have made some choices that have left you where you are now. Taking a look at these decisions will help you better understand your current situation and your problems.

Perhaps you are avoiding making choices at all and burying your head in the sand. Either way, you will need to remedy the situation to move forward more positively and consciously.
